Love Letters to My Library

Share your positive library experiences with a love letter

By Susie Blevins/PCPL November 18, 2016
If your family is anything like mine, we have spent countless hours in the local libaries. From developing social skills at Stay and Play, watching our favorite librarian bring stories to life at Story Time, learning and discovering through fun activities, and of course discovering new books that stretch the imagination, the Tucson public libraries have been a consistent and valuable part of our lives. If your family has had positive library experiences in Tucson, the Pima County Public Library wants to hear about them - in the form of a love letter! This would be a great opportunity for children to express their gratitude and to help develop their writing skills.

Launched in October, Love Letters to My Library is a project that was developed by local blogger Rachel Miller, who launched Love Letters to Tucson, in collaboration with members of the community who are sharing their library love letters.

If you or your child gets writer's block in composing the library love letter, PCPL offers some suggestions:
  • Have you met a librarian who challenged you to read outside the box or try new genres?
  • Have you attended a program that opened your eyes to a different point of view?
  • Has a library service ever helped you connect to other community members?
  • Have you ever left a library thinking how lucky you are to have it as a resource?
These are just some examples to get you started. If you've had other great library experiences you are encouraged to share them.

To ease your letter writing jitters, the letters do not have to be in a certain format - they can range from just one sentence to multiple paragraphs. You can write a poem, a brief narrative, or even create artwork. The most important thing about this project is for members of the Tucson community to share all of the different ways that the library has made a difference in their lives.
