2014 Summer Reading Programs

Keeping your kids stimulated this summer won't be a problem with Summer Reading Programs offered locally and online.

Barnes & Noble Summer Reading Program - Imagination's Destination:
This reading program is for children in first through sixth grades. Here is how it works:
  1. Children read any eight books and record them in the Reading Journal.
  2. Bring the completed Reading Journal to your local Barnes & Noble store between May 20th and September 2nd 2014. Barnes & Noble in Northwest Tucson: Foothills Mall, 7325 N. La Cholla Blvd.
  3. Choose a FREE book from the selection on the Reading Journal list at Barnes & Noble and listed on the back of the journal.
Book Adventure: A FREE, fun, and interactive way to motivate kids to read, brought to you by Sylvan Learning. Create a FREE account, then kids in grades K-8 can search for a book online HERE. After reading their book, kids take an online quiz and earn points toward prizes!

Bookmans Read 10 Get 1 FREE Program: The child needs to complete a book report for each book they read, including their name, age, book title and author, and why they liked or disliked the book. They can even include drawings. After all 10 book reports have been completed they can be turned into any Bookmans and your child will receive a FREE book from the store.

Pima County Library's Summer Reading Program: This year’s theme is all about science, so now is the time to explore, ignite your summer, and experiment with something new. Learn about 3-D photography, bugs, geology, writing, digital media, art, laser lights, and everything in-between. Summer Reading has something for everyone!

·         Fizz Boom Read! – For children in preschool through Grade 6.
·         Spark a Reaction – For teens ages 12-18 or in Grades 6-12.
·         Literary Elements – For adults.
Note: All kid, family and teen summer reading program events at Northwest Tucson libraries will be listed on the NW Tucson Macaroni Kid calendar.
 

Reading Rewards: For this FREE online program, kids log their reading online to move through different reading levels and earn badges. For each minute of reading, kids earn RR Miles that can be redeemed in the RR Store for jokes, riddles, and other fun rewards.

Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge(TM): A free online program that encourages kids to read during the summer (May 5-Sept. 5, 2014) to help set a new world record for summer 2014. Kids log their reading minutes online and on smartphones, enter sweepstakes to earn virtual rewards, and complete weekly challenges for a chance to win books! Parents can track their child's reading progress, and get free activity sheets,book lists, and reading tips.
